The Catch-up Blog

Sorry I have been so MIA lately, but I have many promised posts coming soon. I have yet to tell about our trip to England and Ireland (and share pics), our recent trip to Finland, Constitution Day in Kongsberg (May 17th), and our many adventures hiking here in Norway. So I'll do a quick update and then blog on each separately. We were able to go home (USA) at the end of May which was a huge blessing. We were able to join our family and friends at the annual Grayton Beach trip, which of course meant the world to us. We stayed very busy. :) We were able to celebrate our nieces and nephews birthdays, watch Preston play baseball games and swim team, and spend time with both of our families. I was even fortunate to spend my birthday at home, which I was blessed with a surprise crawfish boil surrounded by my Slidell family. It was perfection. We are back now, I think we accumulated enough hugs to keep with us until we have some visitors :) Kevin is back at work, and things are going well. The "Norwegian Holiday" starts up next week. From what I have gathered it seems that for about a 2 month span those that work take their long vacation at some point during the span, which from what Kevin thinks is about 3 weeks. We have heard that after the annual Kongsberg Jazzfestival (early July), many people take off after that or before. We are looking forward to it- 4 days of music and Stevie Wonder :). I actually will be volunteering at it! I don’t have all the details yet, but I’ll be a part of the “Bargruppa” --Bar group. Ha. So mostly likely selling drinks :) We get a lot of perks by working it! Free entrance to all concerts that are not sold out, free ticket to “give a loved one”, free t-shirt, a big party the last day, free t-shirt, free breakfast, etc. :) I am very excited about it. It will give a chance to practice my Norwegian, meet people, and listen to music. Kevin will be working the holiday since so many will be out, which is why we were able to take our vaca early and come home. I am still in Norwegian class, and after this week we are out for "summer." I have really enjoyed it, and will try to keep up my Norwegian over the break. I was told by my teacher I could skip up a level again if I wanted to...still thinking about what I would like to do :)

We went to Helsinki, Finland the first weekend we got back. Kevin and I had Monday off, so we decided we needed to take advantage of the long weekend. We loved it. I can't wait to share pictures and tell about it. I was able to meet up with a childhood friend while there and the city was relaxing and beautiful. Unfortunately, when we got back Kevin and I both got sick. I had to take my first trip to the Norwegian Doctor, much to my fighting the need to go. Kevin had sinus issues and a bad cough, and I ended up with a sore throat and no energy. I ended up having Strep throat, and was given some antibiotics. I will go over my first MD appointment in detail. We are both feeling better now. We went on a long hiking trip this past Saturday with our hiking group from Kongsberg. We climbed the 8th highest peak in Norway, and it was beyond beautiful. I can't wait to share about that day! We have had a good week, and relaxing weekend so far! I got to finally sign up for a gym membership today, and it was my lucky day. I get to work out free until November and then get a discounted price until we come home. This particular gym will be moving locations soon, and the new facility looks great. I am excited :) It is pretty close to our apartment as well.  Anyway, be prepared for many posts coming your way :)
